Since 1916 when Mr. Edward Desenberg founded Pretty Lake Vacation Camp, the mission has been to provide a cost-free summer camp experience to the at-risk youth of Kalamazoo County. As we enter our 93rd summer, we continue to focus on this mission.
Pretty Lake provides everything our campers need while they are at camp - everything from clothing to toothbrushes — at no cost to them or to their families. For many campers, they would not be able to attend camp if they had to pay a fee or if they had to provide items such as sleeping bags or bathing suits.
We believe that Pretty Lake Vacation Camp is more than just a place to come for a "vacation". It is a place where children can be children. It is a place where the youth of our community increase their respect for themselves and others, where they develop self-confidence and independence, where they learn to work together with others, where they can feel safe and cared for.
It costs, on average, $500 for each camper to spend a week at camp. Pretty Lake, and our campers, rely on the generous financial support and donations from individuals and organizations to help bring our youth to camp. We can carry on the legacy that was started 92 years ago only with your support.
Please adopt a camper today and help make a lasting impact on the life of a child. Your gift is not only a donation, it is an investment in the future of our youth. Your tax-deductible gift, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated and directly benefits hundreds of youth each summer.
