Counselors-in-Training (Grades 10 – 11)

Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is designed for youth in the 10th and 11th grades who possess strong leadership skills and hope to one day work at camp. CITs serve as “junior counselors” and are able to work with younger campers while under the direct supervision – and with the support of – seasoned staff members and mentors. They should have a sincere desire to work with children, a wish to give back to the camp community, a strong work ethic, lots of energy and creativity, a positive attitude and the ability to put children’s needs ahead of their own. Our hands-on learning environment helps CITs develop valuable interpersonal, group-living, communication, organizational and team-building skills. During their time at Pretty Lake Camp, CITs learn how to be role models within everyday camp life and in their community as well.

Eligibility

In order to be considered, applicants must be Pretty Lake Vacation Camp alumni, successfully finished the Leaders-in-Training (LIT) program, and are currently in the 10th or 11th grades.

CIT Session

The CIT program takes place throughout the summer coinciding with regular camper sessions. CITs must participate in all days of the CIT session. CIT sessions correspond with camper sessions as follows:

Session #3 July 7 – July 12
Session #4 July 16 – July 21
Session #5 July 25 – July 30

CIT Application Process

To gain entrance to the program, former Leaders-in-Training (LIT) campers are mailed an application and questionnaire in the spring. If you would like to receive an application, please contact our camp director at (269) 375-1950×120 or summer@prettylakecamp.org.

Placement decisions will be based on the application and questionnaire as well as the applicant’s past performance as a LIT. Placement decisions will be made the last week of April and placement notification will come in the mail mid-May. Please be aware that space is limited and not everyone who applies will be accepted into the program.
