Dear Friends,
“Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen”
I love this quote, and it makes me think of our founder, Edward Desenberg, and his dream to create a fresh air camp for the children in Kalamazoo. In 1916, Desenberg took seven children on their first overnight camping trip at a nearby lake; today tens of thousands of youths have had the unforgettable experience of a week at Pretty Lake Camp.
Every summer at Pretty Lake is memorable, but this summer reached new heights. As always, the campers rolled in on buses, wondering if the stories of new friends, sports, swimming, camping, games, and delicious food were all true. Others hoped to continue these exciting traditions as they returned to camp. One glance at the sports field, sparked the curiosity of new and returning campers. New this year was a tandem swing that soared thirty feet high in the sky. Campers spent this summer being whisked around the lake on inner tubes, feeding baby chickens, paddling canoes around the lake, and soaring through the air. It warmed our hearts to see and hear the embodiment of joy and growth. Together, we made that happen!
Thank you for your support in making memories that will last a lifetime, and helping kids believe something wonderful is about to happen here, at Pretty Lake Camp.
Sincerely,
Eric L. Wimbley
